a new label from some of the decision makers at juno arrives in the shape of love interest, promising a release schedule that eschews genres in favour of seeking out international talent that piques their fancy. minneapolis-based nyteowl is at the helm for the first release with >love of mine<. this clear vinyl twelve inch edition sports two fine remixes from boy 8 bit and mighty mouse, which naturally take the 80s swagger of the original in differing directions. boy 8 bit calls on all his studio trickery with a remix that constantly shifts sonically before dropping into an excellent final detuned synth passage, whilst nu-disco troupe mighty mouse are on soaring form, adding some meat to that beat, whilst nyteowls vocal hitches a ride on an upwards arpeggio.

record store day is synonymous with exclusive and limited releases and this year is no different. featuring a collaboration ep with adrianyounge from venice dawn and black dynamite fame and adrian quesada from the echocentrics, ocote soul sounds, brownout and grammy-winning grupo fantasma. a first name is not all adrian younge and adrian quesada share, they also both have an equal love of the psychedelic, the cinematic and at the root of it all, soul music. so it was inevitable that a collaboration would eventually come to fruition. mutual admirers of each others work, they first met at the sxsw music festival while on the same bill. both began their production careers on mpc and taught themselves various instruments to further capture the symphonies heard in their heads. fresh off his current solo project something about april under the moniker venice dawn, adrian younge found time to create all new tracks with adrian quesada who just released his echoland tribute to timbaland with the echocentrics. although both are distinct artists in their own right, they are cut from the same cloth with a signature sound thats equal parts morricone, early portishead, wu-tang and 60s psychedelic cinema soundtracks. their combined efforts on this ep guarantees a double dose of the sound we have come to expect from these talented individuals.

das nächtliche gemunkel am tresen bei bier und klaren war irritierend gewesen: aufs neue album, so drummer zimmermann und basser strohmeier, würde das lo fat orchestra auch kinderchöre und ein streichquartett packen. man dachte mit grauen an the wall, konzeptalben-bombast, artrockkacke und hoffte halb, das sei nur der berüchtigte schwarzwälder humor. jetzt ist the second word is love da. nicht mit kinder- aber mit chören und natürlich mit streichquartett. die befürchtungen zerbröseln im nu, wenn im opener be honest die bassdrum nagelt, die elektrizität in der luft rauscht und singt, bevor der sägezahnbass und schmids gesang und orgel einsetzen. alles gut! alles besser! alles: mehr!
